RED CROSS SPEAKERS NOW AVAILABLE

Concord, NH, Wednesday, March 4, 2009 – The Granite Chapter of the American Red Cross has a newly formed Speakers Bureau. The specially trained speakers are available to talk to any group or age level at schools, businesses, and community groups for no charge.

The Red Cross offers many important services to New Hampshire communities, schools and businesses. The organization is well known for blood drives that provide blood products for hospitals and other healthcare facilities throughout the State. Many New Hampshire residents are also familiar with Red Cross classes in First Aid, CPR and Water Safety.

Other less well-known services include emotional, educational and financial support to military families in distress during deployment; help for NH refugee families to connect with loved ones in far-off lands; classes in first aid for an injured pet and safety skills for young babysitters; and emotional support and comfort to disaster victims, in addition to helping them with emergency needs for lodging, food and clothing.

“It is important to let our communities know the full range of Red Cross services and tell NH residents how we can help them and their neighbors in times of crisis,” said Becky Field, Director of Communications for the Chapter. “That’s why we’ve formed a group of specially trained volunteers to speak about the work of the Red Cross and about being prepared to cope safely and effectively when disaster strikes.”

Any group interested in inviting a Red Cross guest speaker for an event or meeting can contact Field at 603-225-6697 or fieldr@redcross-concordnh.org. Anyone interested in volunteering as a Red Cross speaker is also encouraged to contact her.

“Our goal is to assure that New Hampshire families, schools, businesses, and communities are safe and well prepared for the unexpected,” Field added.

In a recent talk to preschoolers, Sherri Litchfield, Director of Health and Safety Training at the Granite Chapter, discussed with youngsters the basic safety steps to take around their home and school.
