PHLEBOTOMY FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS!

The American Red Cross Granite Chapter is now offering a Phlebotomy
Training Program for healthcare professionals. This course is
designed to provide students with the theoretical, practical and
interpersonal skills required of an entry-level phlebotomist.
Program Objectives:
§
Demonstrate entry
level phlebotomy skills
§
Demonstrate
professional conduct consistent with the established professional code of ethics
§
Demonstrate
knowledge of the healthcare delivery system and medical terminology
§
Demonstrate
knowledge of safety and infection control as defined by the CDC and OSHA
§
Define medical
terminology relating to phlebotomy
§
Demonstrate basic
knowledge of anatomy and physiology of cardiovascular systems as it relates to
the role of a phlebotomist
§
Communicate
professionally in the workplace
§
Gain a clear
understanding of patient, clinical and resident rights
§
Demonstrate
knowledge of collection equipment, various types of additives used, special
precautions and substances that can interfere with chemical analysis of blood
constituents
§
Describe the
components and functions of departments within a clinical laboratory
§
Successfully
complete two venipunctures
Minimum Requirements:
§
Must be a high
school graduate or equivalent
§
Proof of Active LNA,
LPN or RN License, Medical Assistant or Medical Professional
§
Be in good physical
and mental health
