Our Name Has Changed! Why? Read more...CONCORD - June 29, 2007 -- The name "Granite Chapter" is appearing now in newsletters, web pages, news articles, and other information about the Red Cross in New Hampshire. No, there isn't another chapter in the neighborhood. It's the new name for our chapter as of July 1, 2007. Many haven't been aware of the full name of this chapter. Since our consolidation with the former Greater White Mountain Chapter, we had been officially known as The Concord Area Chapter and Greater White Mountain Consolidated Service Delivery Unit. That's 75 letters. So you can imagine our delight with this new name (14 letters, 81% shorter). Of course length wasn't the reason for changing the name. Our new name reflects the recently increased coverage in our service area, which now includes not only the Concord Area, but also the Lakes Region and North Country; that's 100 towns from just south of Concord to the Canadian border. But what's in a name? We are still the same caring Red Cross chapter that is there for you and your neighbors during and after a disaster, and ready to train our communities in CPR, First Aid, Babysitting Skills, Water Safety, or even Pet First Aid. We continue to help military personnel and their families through our Armed Forces Emergency Services, and are part of the large International Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Crystal Movement. We also still offer a large variety of exciting and important volunteer opportunities for anyone with a little or a lot of time. It's not the sign in front of the building that makes the chapter; it's the good people inside that building.
