CONCORD - November 2007 -- Susan Rock, RN, is a Licensed Nurse Assistant instructor and disaster volunteer at the Granite Chapter in Concord, NH. When she returned from her work in emotional triage with the Red Cross Katrina disaster relief operation in New Orleans, she transcribed her experiences in a set of fiber art collages, entitled "Katrina and All That Jazz".
A fiber artist and instructor in machine embroidery, Rock created the 21 panels to express the sadness (a panel, "Children suffer the most" ), devastation ("My Heart and Brain as I Witnessed the Destruction of Katrina"), and hope ("Americas Responded to the Call for Help") of her experiences. She described her work as "recanting the mystery of storm, the misery of destruction, and the mighty resurgence of the human spirit."
Rock's collages have been exhibited at local schools and art galleries in the Concord area.
