Branch Office Marks End of Grand Opening with Summer Celebration

CONCORD - August 7, 2006 - The Red Cross Summer Celebration marked the end of a festive month of grand opening events for the Branch Office of the Concord Area Chapter located in the Belknap Mall in Belmont.
The Celebration, held throughout the Mall on Saturday, July 29, provided visitors with free food, prizes and information about the work and services of the local Red Cross chapter.
An ERV (emergency response vehicle) was parked outside the Branch Office, generously provided by the Greater Manchester Chapter of the American Red Cross. It was operated by volunteers Rick Christy and Dick Proulx who served lunch to visitors, including hotdogs, chips, ice cream, and soda. Coffee, donuts, and cake were also available during the Celebration.

| The Emergency Response Vehicle, ERV, was on hand to serve hotdogs, chips and soda to Summer Celebration visitors. During a disaster, the ERV serves a similar function of distributing food and supplies to affected people and emergency providers. |
Inside the mall, a kiosk displayed information about the classes and services of the Red Cross. There were items for sale, such as first aid kits, vintage Red Cross tee shirts, Red Cross teddy bears, and stethoscopes. Tables throughout the Mall displayed information about programs available at the Chapter and Branch Office, including volunteer opportunities, disaster training and preparedness, Licensed Nurse Assistant courses, and health and safety classes.
Red Cross staff and volunteers were on hand to answer questions about the Red Cross programs and services, demonstrate choking response and pet CPR, and give away free trinkets including coloring books and balloons to children. Tours of the new Branch Office were provided.

The event was sponsored by area restaurants, businesses and stores that contributed food, drinks and prizes for the Summer Celebration. Drawings were held every half-hour for free prizes provided by the generous donors.
Congratulations to all the prize winners, and thanks to sponsors and participants in the Summer Celebration.
