CONCORD - October 2, 2006 - "Challenges of Emergency Preparedness: what you need to know" was the theme of the 5th Annual Senior Wellness Festival at the Winnipesaukee Exposition Center, Laconia on September 29. About 300 senior citizens from the Lakes Region attended the festival.

Lunchtime keynote speakers at the event were Priscilla Greene, executive director for the Concord Area Chapter and Greater White Mountain services delivery unit, and Paul Groulx, a disaster trained volunteer with the Red Cross and a retired agent for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Also attending were Dan Brennan, the chapter's director of Emergency Services, Laura Volker, emergency services assistant, Gene Tappen, Health and Safety program, and Kay Mahoney, Red Cross/VISTA volunteer. They answered questions and staffed a Red Cross interactive booth where attendees got information, watched a slide show and saw demonstrations on safety and emergency preparedness.

The chapter serves the Concord Area, Lakes Region and North Country. This festival was sponsored by ServiceLink of Belknap County. For more information about emergency preparedness, contact the Red Cross chapter at 1 (800) 464-6692 or (603) 225-6697.
