Red Cross Supports Long-Term Recovery

CONCORD - August 28, 2006 - For many families, the devastating effects of the floods last May are not over. Mold, heating unit damage, structural concerns still face many families within the jurisdiction of the Concord Area Red Cross Chapter. With the approach of colder weather, these ongoing problems may determine whether the families can remain in their homes.

The Chapter and the Community Action Program (CAP) in Belknap-Merrimack Counties, Inc., are working together to identify and allocate funds to families with critical needs that impact the safety of their homes. This collaboration resulted from discussions between the Ralph Littleton, CAP Executive Director, and Priscilla Greene, Red Cross Chapter Executive Director. They both serve on the Governor's Task Force for long-term flood recovery, and were looking for creative solutions for working through extraordinary caseloads with limited financial resources.

Red Cross Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) volunteers are conducting the follow-up phone interviews after being trained by Dan Brennan, Red Cross Emergency Services Director, and Andy Labrie, CAP Case Manager. The information from these interviews will be used to allocate services to individuals and families still in need of flood recovery assistance.
