CONCORD - August 15, 2006 - Laura Volker has joined the Concord Area Chapter of the Red Cross as the Emergency Services Assistant. One of her duties will be to manage three of the six Disaster Action Teams (DATs) regions in our chapter, specifically the Laconia, Plymouth and Littleton teams.

Laura became involved in the Chapter as a volunteer following the post-hurricane disaster in the Gulf States. She was part of a group of about 16 people who were deployed from the Concord Area Chapter to New Orleans.

"Most of us had experienced or seen the aftermath of a disaster," she said, "however living and working with the local people for three weeks changed me in many different ways, especially emotionally."

Her continued concerns for the needs of people led her to volunteer for the Red Cross Concord Area Chapter last spring during the local flood disaster.

Laura has two grown children. She and her family moved to New Hampshire from the midwest in 1987 and have kept up an active lifestyle, including "peak bagging" and skiing. "I am looking forward to my new adventure with the Red Cross," she noted. DAT meetings will be a good chance to get acquainted with Laura.
