CONCORD - August 28, 2006 - Six disaster-trained volunteers are on their way to Orlando, Florida in anticipation of Hurricane Ernesto.
Phil Jones, Paul Groulx, Roger Tetu, Laurie Sargent, Bill Matulevich and Susie Burmann will help the American Red Cross respond to immediate needs of families and individuals impacted by the Hurricane which is expected to hit the Florida coast on Wednesday.
The volunteers are all trained in basic disaster services, family services, mass care and feeding, and shelter operations. Four of them have also received training in operation of a Red Cross ERV (Emergency Response Vehicle) (see related story).
"The Red Cross' response in disaster-impacted communities is possible because of the time, expertise, and energy that these volunteers donate," said Dan Brennan, Director of Emergency Services for the Concord Area Chapter.
