Chapter Responds to Fire in Loudon

CONCORD - Nov 4, 2006 - Friday, November 3, was busy for one member of the chapter's six Disaster Action Teams (DATs). At approximately 4 pm the chapter was called to assist a family who lost their home in a trailer park in Loudon. The disaster-trained volunteer from the Concord DAT responded quickly.

The trailer home was completely destroyed. The family consisted of two adults and four children, including an 8-week old baby. The DAT volunteer helped the family with immediate needs for food and clothing. The family was able to find temporary housing.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free and made possible by donations of funds from the public and volunteer time from the community. Members of the Disaster Action Teams are available to help 24/7 as needed. Team members are specially trained to care for families in crisis, providing immediate needs for clothing, food and shelter.

Fires are the most common disaster requiring Red Cross response. See related story: Be Prepared for House Fires. Your local Chapter is always available to help, truly an example of neighbors helping neighbors.

If you would like to learn more about your chapter or disaster action teams, please contact the chapter at 225-6697 or 1-800-464-6692.
