Chapter Trains Volunteers in ERV Operation
 |
| Red Cross volunteer, Laurie Desmarais, practices her skills in guiding the ERV driver when backing up. She and 14 other Red Cross volunteers were recently certified as ERV operators. |
CONCORD - August 28, 2006 - Fifteen disaster volunteers were trained over the weekend of August 26 in how to drive and operate a Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV). They learned skills in safe operation of the truck, including a road test, and became familiar with the variety of gear that is stored on the ERV for disaster response.
The Red Cross sends ERVs to disaster sites to distribute food, drinks, and supplies to people at the scene, including affected individuals and families as well as emergency response personnel.
The Concord Area Chapter sent four of the newly trained ERV operators to Orlando, FL, where they will join other American Red Cross volunteers in preparing for the anticipated landfall of Hurricane Ernesto (see related story).
