CONCORD - September 14, 2006 - A major fire in Allenstown during the night of Tuesday, September 12, left a house in total ruin. The one-family home was the residence for a husband, wife, their daughter and her two children.
Two disaster-trained volunteers from the American Red Cross, Concord Area Chapter and Greater White Mountain CSDU, responded within 10 minutes after being called. Armand and Claudette Verville, members of one of the Chapter's six DATs (Disaster Action Teams), are also from Allenstown and knew the family. The Vervilles provided the family with Red Cross assistance for food and clothing. The family was able to find lodging with friends.
Neighbors were also there to help. Even the morning after, friends, neighbors, fire officials and family members gathered at the burned property. Branches of a tree in the front yard were singed and a pickup truck in the driveway sustained major damage from the heat which much of the front of the truck.
The family was very grateful for the quick response from the Red Cross volunteers, according to Armand Verville. The Chapter will continue to work with the family to address their immediate needs.
Allenstown was also the site of severe flooding damage last May.
