Volunteers Work Across State Lines to Help Family
Dec. 29 2006 -- Christmas was not on the minds of two Concord Disaster Action Team (DAT) members who recently joined firefighters from over a dozen towns in responding to a single-family fire in Canterbury. The home to a family of five was completely engulfed in flames and a total loss.
Former Red Cross Chairman Dies at 98
Dec. 28 2006 -- A long- term American Red Cross advocate and former chairman, Frank Stanton, passed away recently at his home in Boston, Mass. Stanton, a Michigan native, was appointed Chairman of the American Red Cross by President Richard Nixon and served from 1973-1979.
Local Fires Keep Disaster Teams Busy
Dec. 12 2006 -- The first week of December proved to be a busy one for Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers in the Lakes Region and Concord area. On Saturday, December 2, a fire was reported at a single family home in Franklin.
Brick Walkway Completed
Dec. 1 2006 -- The Chapter recently celebrated the completion of the inscribed brick walkway located in the front of the new office and training facility located on Maitland Street in Concord.
Chapter Joins Hannaford in Winter Preparedness Tips
Nov. 20 2006 -- The Concord Area Red Cross Chapter and the Hannaford Supermarket on Fort Eddy Road in Concord have joined in a nationally coordinated program to help families prepare to stay safe and dry this winter.

Chapter Part of "Fright Night"
Nov. 8 2006 -- The chapter's Belmont Branch Office added to the fun of "Fright Night" at the Belknap Mall on Friday October 27, to celebrate Halloween and promote safety for kids during the fun-filled event.
Chapter Responds to Fire in Loudon
Nov. 4 2006 -- Friday, November 3, was busy for one member of the chapter's six Disaster Action Teams (DATs). At approximately 4 pm the chapter was called to assist a family who lost their home in a trailer park in Loudon. The disaster-trained volunteer from the Concord DAT responded quickly.
Red Cross at Officer Briggs' Funeral
Oct. 24 2006 -- New Hampshire chapters of the American Red Cross made their services available for the large number of people who came to Manchester for the funeral and wake for Officer Michael Briggs.
Be Prepared for House Fires
Oct. 4 2006 -- Your local chapter of the American Red Cross urges families to prepare for a home fire. According to a recent poll by the Red Cross, four out of five Americans are unaware that home fires are the most common disaster in the United States, but only 26 percent of families have actually developed and practiced a home fire escape plan. Since fires kill more Americans each year than all natural disasters combined, the Red Cross Concord Area Chapter and Greater White Mountain service unit urges families to use Red Cross resources to develop a fire escape plan and to take steps toward fire prevention and safety.
Chapter at Senior Wellness Festival in Laconia
Oct. 2 2006 -- "Challenges of Emergency Preparedness: what you need to know" was the theme of the 5th Annual Senior Wellness Festival at the Winnipesaukee Exposition Center, Laconia on September 29. About 300 senior citizens from the Lakes Region attended the festival.
Annual Meeting Honors 90 Volunteers
Sept. 22 2006 -- With a standing-room-only crowd, the Red Cross Concord Area Chapter and Greater White Mountain CSDU held the 2006 Annual Meeting on Thursday evening, September 21, 2006.
Golf Tournament: A Great Success!
Sept. 20 2006 -- Tuesday, September 19, was a fine day to be on the golf course. The American Red Cross, Concord Area Chapter, hosted the 6th Annual "Save a Life" Golf Tournament at the Canterbury Woods Country Club.

Blood Services Meeting Addresses Pandemic Flu
Sept. 18 2006 -- The Northeast Region of the American Red Cross Blood Services held its annual meeting on Thursday, September 14, at the office of the Red Cross Concord Area Chapter and Greater White Mountain certified services delivery unit. The theme for this year's meeting was preparedness and response to a potential avian flu pandemic.
Hood Employees Honored at Annual Meeting
Sept. 18 2006 -- Two employees from the fluid milk processing plant of the HP Hood Company on North State Street, Concord will be honored at the Chapter's Annual Meeting on Thursday, September 21. Their quick and well-trained action using CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) saved the life of a fellow employee.
House Fire in Allenstown - Red Cross Responds
Sept. 14 2006 -- A major fire in Allenstown during the night of Tuesday, September 12, left a house in total ruin. The one-family home was the residence for a husband, wife, their daughter and her two children.
Day of Caring Volunteers Visit Chapter Office
Sept. 14 2006 -- On September 13th, the United Way of Merrimack County hosted the 15th Annual "Day of Caring".
Disaster Volunteer Visits Israel
Sept. 14 2006 -- During a family trip to Israel, Ken Roos, disaster volunteer with the Concord Area Chapter, visited the Red Star of David, an organization that was recently accepted into the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Panera Donates $5000 to Red Cross Chapter
Sept. 6 2006 -- Concord Panera Café on Fort Eddy Road in Concord recently donated $5,000 to the Concord Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. The donation is the result of a partnership between Panera and the American Red Cross at the national level.
CPR Training Saves Life of Hood Employee
Sept. 6 2006 -- A recent event at the fluid milk processing plant of the HP Hood Company on North State Street, Concord was a testimony to the benefits of CPR and First Aid training.
Red Cross Was Ready for Ernesto
Sept. 6 2006 -- The motto of "Be Prepared" was the theme last week as Red Cross volunteers mobilized for landfall of Hurricane Ernesto. Instead the storm moved north as a tropical storm but still strong enough to dump flooding rains along the Carolina, coast. Hurricane force winds never hit the Florida coast.
Training in Incident Command System for Red Cross Volunteers
August 28 2006 -- The New Hampshire Fire Academy in Concord has agreed to train Red Cross Chapter volunteers in the nationwide Incident Command System (ICS). The courses will include IS 100 (Introduction to ICS), ICS 200 (Basic ICS) and IS 700 (Introduction to National Incident Management System, NIMS).

Chapter Sends Volunteers to NY and PA Floods
August 28 2006 -- School nurse and Red Cross volunteer, Judy Elliott, was planning a laid-back 4th of July weekend when the phone rang. The Concord Area Chapter of the Red Cross needed volunteers for devastating floods in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Within 24 hours, she was on her way to Binghamton, NY for a life-shaping 2 weeks as a Red Cross disaster volunteer.
Chapter Trains Volunteers in ERV Operation
August 28 2006 -- Fifteen disaster volunteers were trained over the weekend of August 26 in how to drive and operate a Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV).
Red Cross Supports Long-Term Recovery
August 28 2006 -- For many families, the devastating effects of the floods last May are not over. Mold, heating unit damage, structural concerns still face many families within the jurisdiction of the Concord Area Red Cross Chapter. With the approach of colder weather, these ongoing problems may determine whether the families can remain in their homes.
Chapter Responds Fast to Major Fire in Franklin
August 21 2006 -- At 1:30 on Wednesday morning, two new members of the Concord DAT (disaster action team), father and daughter Vincent and Susan Cambria, got a call - a six-family fire with over 30 people affected.
New Quality Assurance Coordinator Joins Health & Safety Program
August 21 2006 -- Gene Tappen is a familiar face at the Chapter, especially in the classrooms teaching CRP, First Aid or AED (automated external defibrillator) classes. Now he has a new role as the Quality Assurance Coordinator for the Health and Safety training program.
Licensed Nurse Assistants Graduate from Red Cross Program
August 15 2006 -- The day of graduation finally came for 30 students training to become Licensed Nurse Assistants (LNAs) through the program at the Concord Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. With their families cheering them on, each received a rose and a pin on their uniforms. They are now ready to serve their community with valuable healthcare skills.
New Emergency Services Assistant
August 15 2006 -- Laura Volker has joined the Concord Area Chapter of the Red Cross as the Emergency Services Assistant. One of her duties will be to manage three of the six Disaster Action Teams (DATs) regions in our chapter, specifically the Laconia, Plymouth and Littleton teams.
