About Your ChapterMission Statement: In March of 2004, the Concord Area and Greater White Mountain American Red Cross chapters began working together as one organization. This collaboration leveraged resources from each unit, streamlined operating procedures and increased program efficiencies. As a result, the Chapter has expanded programs and services in the North Country and Lakes Region. Effective July 1, 2007 our new name became the Granite Chapter. On July 1, 2009, the Mount Washington Valley Chapter joined the Granite Chapter. With the resources and experience of the Granite Chapter, American Red Cross services are now more evident and effective for residents in Conway, Bartlett, Tamworth, Madison, and other communities in the Mount Washington Valley.
Financial Summary Governance Services to the Community Health and Safety Services Our chapter staff and volunteers teach courses in CPR, First Aid, Aquatic Safety, Bloodborne Pathogens, Pet First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, Babysitter Training, Safe on My Own (ages 8-11) and use of AEDs. The Granite Chapter provides health and safety classes at our chapter offices, in the community, at workplaces and in schools. Last year, 14,351 individuals were certified in 1,466 health and safety classes. Licensed Nurse Assistant (LNA) Training LNAs provide basic patient care under the direction of registered nurses and licensed practical nurses. The demand for LNAs is one of the highest of all jobs in the State. 454 LNAs received their licenses in fiscal year 2008 after training and/or testing through the chapter’s LNA program; 191 of these were new LNAs from the Red Cross course. Disaster Services This chapter’s seven Disaster Action Teams (DATs) are specially trained in disaster response. These teams are positioned throughout the communities we serve, making disaster responses more effective. Last year, our disaster volunteers responded to 88 local disasters, assisting 238 people. The Red Cross is on the scene for any disaster—large or small. Disaster teams assisted over 100 people in the NH tornado disaster in July 2008. They served over 10,000 meals and snacks to the affected families and emergency responders. Blood Services Health facilities in New England rely on the Red Cross for blood and blood products. Volunteers from the Granite Chapter register donors, serve refreshments and do other tasks at blood donor sites. During fiscal year 2008, 12,749 generous donors gave blood at 225 blood drives. Services to the Armed Forces (SAF) The American Red Cross assists thousands of military families with emergency communication regarding the birth of a child, serious illness, or death of a loved one. The Red Cross works with other national societies to trace family members in the midst of war, civil unrest or disaster in other countries. Last year, our local chapter responded to 142 cases for assistance to military families. Volunteer Program The American Red Cross is led by volunteers who assist and guide the chapter in many ways, including office support, computer program design and input, youth activities, disaster relief, health and safety instruction, and board governance. Last year 495 registered volunteers , and 32 teenaged Youth Board members worked with the chapter over 6,535 volunteer hours to provide critical Red Cross services to New Hampshire residents.
